It can be difficult to understand what life is like without access to clean water. Rosario’s story demonstrates the transformation that occurs when someone gains access to clean water. Rosario lives in rural Mexico. She was married at a young age and had her first child when she was only 13. Like many women, Rosario was responsible for collecting and boiling water. Globally, women spend a collective 200 million hours collecting water.
Now, Rosario has ten children. Every day, she takes her children down to the river to collect water for washing clothes and bathing. Additionally, each of her older children has to carry a jug of water home for cooking and to purify for drinking. This task consumes a lot of time and is difficult for her entire family. Time spent collecting water prevents her children from going to school some days. Rosario shared with Healing Waters’ staff how challenging her life is, as it is consumed with collecting and purifying water.
“Healing Waters represents hope for my children.”

We are currently constructing a community-wide water system in Rosario’s community that will provide safe water directly to her household tap. This means that Rosario will have consistent access to safe water and will no longer need to make the daily trek to the river. She and her children will also receive important health and hygiene education based in biblical principles designed to instill healthy habits and to remind each one of them of their inherent value. Rosario says that Healing Waters represents hope for her children.
