I’ve heard of people running a marathon to raise money for a great cause they believe in – but never heard of one person running 50 marathons in 50 weeks! Until now. Oh and did I mention in 50 different states?
When Bryce told me about his vision for the Run5050 Campaign to raise $750,000 to help solve the global water crisis, I thought he might be crazy. Honestly, the reasonable man inside me didn’t even know if I wanted him to try! And then, when he told me he was quitting his job in order to do this – well then I knew he was crazy.
It’s just the kind of craziness that changes the world. A friend of mine loves to quote George Bernard Shaw, who wrote,
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
Folks, this ain’t reasonable! And that’s exactly why it has the potential to bring about radical progress toward righting one of the world’s great injustices – that nearly 2 billion people drink contaminated, disease laden water every day that is killing them and their children and robbing them of the health needed to pursue their dreams and opportunities.
What’s astounding is this crisis has ready solutions. We don’t need miracle cures to be invented, we have the technology and tools already. All 2 billion people can be reached with sustainable access to safe water within the next 15 years if we come together and give the issue the priority it deserves.
In many communities safe water production systems can be implemented at a one-time cost of $25 per person or less. If the Run5050 Campaign can reach its goal 30,000-50,000 people can gain permanent access to affordable safe water in their community! And with that, paying jobs will be created, the cost of water in the region will become affordable to all and people will have more of their earnings available for other basic needs like food, clothes and school supplies for their kids. And, women, upon whom the burden of unsafe water is the greatest, are empowered to pursue more productive activities to care for themselves and their families.
That’s progress. It’s progress we can make together because there’s an unreasonable man among us named Bryce. I challenge everyone who reads this to follow his example and do something unreasonable so that the goal is not only reached but surpassed. Give an unreasonable amount of money, time and attention to support Bryce and the people who he’s running for – children, women and men without safe water to drink.
Tell everyone you know about this cause and challenge them to be equally unreasonable. Tell everyone you know that they should get a front row seat to watch this unreasonable man run 50 marathons in 50weeks in 50 different states.
Can he do it? With your unreasonable help I believe he will.
Go to www.Run5050.org to make an unreasonable donation and guarantee your front row seat and let’s come alongside Bryce in a big way as he runs to advance our mission!
