I grew up in a church and always wanted more than just stories about God. If He was real then I expected to see Him at work! If we really believed the words we sang in the hymns then we should behave like it. That’s who I am – looking for a real God and taking practical steps to act out my faith – getting my whole body into it, not just my mind.
When I say ‘act’ with my whole body, I mean it! At my church I am a part of what we call Faith on Stage (See the picture below- I’m third from the left). We put on dramas in which we portray the real struggles and inspiration of people who know, or don’t know, God. It may be theatrical or dramatic; but for me, it’s showing in a practical way how God is real in our lives.
As Administrative Assistant at Healing Waters International, I take care of most of the practical stuff around here—paying the bills, buying supplies, human resources, reporting, and—my favorite—donor database management. Any time you call to make a donation or change a recurring donation, I get to talk to you! I love hearing from the people behind the donations—the people who are making a change in the lives of so many others. You are the Body of Christ bringing a cup of water in His name. That’s God being real and practical!
As for cups of water, I’ve never been very consistent about drinking that 8 cups a day. I see how important it is for others in communities that don’t even have clean water to drink, and know it’s important here at home also. That’s why my participation in our Resolution challenge is to drink more water and to encourage you to do the same, as we both give to make sure others have clean water to drink. Join me in keeping it real and practical for God – give in a practical way. Give what people need most—God and water. Give in a real way. Each time you enjoy a cup of water, remember to set some of your money aside so that others can do the same.
Thanks for listening to my story. I’m looking forward to seeing your name on my donor reports!
May the Lord constantly bring good into your life. May He zealously cherish and keep watch over you. May His face beam with delight upon you, showering you with grace. May He be fully present with you, not turning away; and may you find unthreatened, undisturbed wholeness, and security.
