Can high school students help change the world? They can with the help of a compassionate teacher, a clear mission to support a safe water ministry, and the generosity of others.
Jenni Lindberg—a Spanish teacher from Geneseo, Illinois—inspired her students to raise nearly $600 to support Healing Waters International and our efforts to end the global water crisis.
This year, Ms. Lindberg’s students have a chapter in their textbook that covers world issues. After reading about these world issues and how they impact children and families, her students decided they wanted to do more than only learn—they wanted to help.
High Schoolers Raise Money for Safe Water
Three separate classes of high schoolers joined together on a single mission—to help end the global water crisis. After talking with their teacher, they decided to raise funds to help bring safe water to communities in need by partnering with Healing Waters International.
For a whole week, students carried empty water jugs for their “Change for a Change” fundraiser. Through the generous gifts of friends, family members, and even strangers, these students raised $576.49.

How Can These Gifts Help Fight the Global Water Crisis?
Thanks to this generous donation, more children will make it to class every day because they won’t be sick from drinking unsafe water. More mothers will receive health & hygiene training to help their family stay well. And this generosity will help support an entire community with the gift of safe water.
For each person who partners with Healing Waters International, that extends our reach to mothers, children, and families who have spent too long without access to safe water. Too often, children fall ill to waterborne illness because of the water they drink. Missed school means missed opportunities for these children to excel. But the gift of safe water is restorative—supporting not only physical health, but mental and spiritual, as well.
Thank you to Ms. Lindberg and your incredible students for your generosity and compassion for others!
