Director of Marketing & Communications

Position Summary: The Director of Marketing and Communications has primary accountability for creation and execution of proven and innovative marketing strategies, campaigns and initiatives that continuously expand the HWI audience, enrich the donor experience, inspire new levels of generosity and fuel the growth, scale, and impact of the HWI mission.

 

The DMC will contribute through a broad range of responsibilities including: vision casting, strategy development, storybranding, content creation, goal management, team development, annual planning and budgeting – all while being a hands-on contributor who rolls up their sleeves on a daily basis.

 

Key Responsibilities

·      In alignment with the overarching organizational strategic vision and Advancement Division strategy and goals – plan, produce, deliver and manage a comprehensive marketing and communications program that includes (but is not limited to) digital and social media, targeted/automated email marketing, search engine optimization, website, and printed collateral

·      Build and lead a high-performing marketing and communications team, providing high challenge and high support to each team member

·      Develop all content for media platforms that clearly and powerfully tells the story of the impact of the work of HWI

·      Define and implement a brand strategy

·      Support Development Team with design and production of fundraising support materials including program reports and funding proposals

·      Envision, create and lead fundraising events, influencer campaigns, corporate engagement or other cause-related marketing efforts

·      Catalogue, evaluate, and enhance marketing efforts on an annual basis

·      Develop and maintain comprehensive marketing calendar outlining communication timelines and department resources involved

·      Establish dashboard to track objectives and key results (or lead and lag measures) to drive execution and monitor progress of marketing goals and objectives and report to CEO and board of directors on a regular basis

·      Incorporate use of data and analytics to optimize and evaluate results of all aspects of marketing plan and tactics

·      Develop and manage annual plan and budget for marketing and communications
·      Provide strategic thought leadership and develop key tools and processes in the fields of marketing, communications, and public relations in the nonprofit sector

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in relatable field
  • Minimum of 5+ years of work experience related to marketing/ communications

Major Gifts Officer

Mission of the Role: The Major Gift Officer is responsible for the prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship of donors with special focus on five figure multi-year gifts. S/he will create meaningful relationships with prospective and current ministry partners, sharing the mission and vision of HWI and inviting people into meaningful, ongoing relationship with the ministry. The Major Gift Officer serves as an extension and ambassador of HWI, building Christ-centered relationships that connect donors’ interests with the mission of HWI. S/he will be responsible to increase, strengthen, and diversify HWI’s funding sources.

Key Accountabilities:

I. Organizational Responsibilities

II. Operating Responsibilities
• Develop and oversee portfolio of 150-200 donors and prospects.
• Participate in each step of the donor pipeline including: identification; qualification through research; cultivation, stewardship, and recognition.
• Identify and Cultivate Relationships:
o Personally engage ministry partners through a variety of means such as personal visits, special events, vision trips, and other meaningful touches (with a priority on face-to-face interaction)
o Engage in a targeted number of face-to-face meetings per month with prospective and current donors
o Grow donor portfolio by developing new giving partnerships through networking and research
o Attend relevant networking events
o Develop and execute an annual plan including an individualized engagement strategy for advancing each relationship
• Present Opportunities for Partnership:
o Invite people into deep and meaningful partnership through giving opportunities that align their ministry passions with the mission and programs of HWI
o Develop and write funding proposals with support from development team and program staff
o Seek other opportunities for partnership that utilize a partner’s influence, time, and talent
o Specifically seek the leading of the Holy Spirit through each relationship and encounter
• Steward Relationships with Care and Gratitude:
o Timely acknowledgment and thanks for ministry partner’s support
o Minister to donors by connecting on a spiritual level; encouraging their walk with the Lord, praying with and for them, and incorporating principles of Biblical stewardship as appropriate
o Provide customized and timely impact reporting
o Keep donors feeling connected, updated, and valued as true ministry partners
• Accountability to the Development & Marketing Department:
o Participate in departmental portfolio review process and be a partner in maintaining an organized system for donor stewardship by updating records and accounts in donor CRM
o Accurately document all prospective and current ministry partner contact information using Salesforce
o Report prospect/current engagement activity and outcomes monthly to the Director of Development & Marketing
o Personally represent HWI at events as needed

Mission of the Role: The Sr. Director of Advancement (SDA) has primary responsibility to provide executive leadership for the development of resources necessary to advance the mission of HWI. This includes, but is not limited to, brand awareness, financial resources, strategic partnerships, and community advocacy. The SDA will report directly to the CEO, will serve on the Executive Leadership Team, and will manage all staff within the advancement division. He/She will work through their development and marketing teams to evaluate, sustain, and grow existing revenue generating sources, including but not limited to: major giving, topline giving, foundations, churches, strategic partners, etc. Additionally, the SDA must maintain a growing knowledge of non-profit advancement to manage continual improvement to Development, Marketing, and Communications efforts at HWI. All of this work is to be accomplished in accordance with the principles Advancement as laid out in scripture, which prioritize Christ’s role in leading our work, and prioritizes the donor’s role as steward of that with which God has entrusted to his/her care.

Executive Leadership
15% ·      Hire and supervise all staff within the Advancement division.

·      Serve as an active contributor on the Executive Leadership Team (ELT).

·      Provide strategic leadership to the annual planning and execution of an overarching Advancement strategy (currently the “Find/Win/Keep/Lift continuum).

·      Participate as requested in meetings of the Board of Directors.

Divisional Leadership
65% ·      Meet regularly with direct reports to monitor and lead progression of divisional priorities.

·      Lead the division in such a way as to create increased commitment to the work of HWI, and growing competency for each staff with respect to their unique role.

·      In coordination with CEO, manage a portfolio of the top 50 HWI Major Givers through the four-stage relationship management process: Identification, Qualification, Cultivation, and Stewardship.

·      Provide leadership and supervision to the Development department for the effective execution of increased financial and partnership resources through all segments of givers.

·      Provide leadership and supervision to the Marketing/Communications department for the effective execution of increased brand awareness and advocacy for the mission of HWI.

·      Lead directors within division to catalogue, evaluate, and enhance their priority programs on an annual basis.

·      Create and monitor dashboard of key lead/lag metrics for the division and make adjustments to work priorities as necessary.

·      With department staff, coordinate the execution of all communication, event, trip, etc. priorities as outlined through annual planning processes.

Administration
15% ·      Ensure division dashboards are kept up to date and distributed to CEO and department staff as necessary.

·      In coordination with VP of Finance, determine annual revenue targets (informed forecast) to assist in updates to organization budget annually.

·      Prepare and present revenue reports (trends, analysis, actuals, etc.) to Board, CEO, and ELT as necessary.

·      Ensure all data entry for division re: partner/constituent database is kept up to date.

Professional Growth
5% ·      Reading (The Sower, The Choice, Revolution in Generosity, Story Brand, This Is Marketing, etc.)

·      Attend conferences/trainings/webinars (i.e. Christian Leadership Alliance, etc.) as necessary to maintain growing connections with other industry leaders, and knowledge of industry best practices.

Qualifications Required:

  • Advanced degree in relatable field
  • Minimum of 7+ years of work experience in development/marketing within non-profit sector.
  • 3+ years of proven success in management of a Major Donor portfolio

Marketing & Development

In this role, you will be working with the Healing Waters Marketing & Development team and the Program team by creating and designing compelling content that helps tell the stories and processes of HWI. This internship requires you to be flexible in this role and be able to move from task-to-task while remaining organized. We are looking for someone creative and highly motivated to take initiative and to stay within brand guidelines. Some of the activities you will be performing with this internship include, but are not limited to:

  • Produce short videos for marketing campaigns
  • Prepare and edit videos for presentations

In this role, you will be serving the Healing Waters Marketing & Development team by assisting with fundraising and development efforts through grant writing, written proposals and identifying key donors. Program Internship Opportunities

App Developer

In this role, you will create an Android App for Healing Waters site managers to track expenses and revenues, calculate daily and monthly reports, and sync with an online database. The app will be multi-lingual (select a language, and it displays all text in that language). All content and logic will be provided by Healing Waters, we just need someone to write the code and set up the app. We are looking for someone creative and highly motivated to take initiative.

We’re looking with someone with some experience creating android apps. The internship may also involve making some improvements to our equipment operators app. Work can be done remotely if desired, touching base weekly with our Program team to review and plan.

Data Visualization Intern

In this role, you will work alongside and support the Program Department. Healing Waters has recently revamped the way we collect data from our projects, which now will leave us with much more information about our work. We need to find how to use that data to best communicate our work and impact to different stakeholders and wider audiences. This internship would have one foot in the development side and the other in the program department. It is best for someone who is visually artistic and also comfortable with data.

WASH Research Intern

We are always looking to improve and gain a greater understanding of the WASH landscape. In this role, we are seeking an individual with research experience to research various topics for the Programs team.

Topics would include:

  • Best practices in collecting health data or showing health impacts from WASH interventions
  • Best practices in sanitation interventions in Latin America
  • Global supply chains and sourcing water treatment components
