Precious Cargo…Life Sustaining Water

On any given day of the week, Estella pushes a stroller as she walks home from the church, Santa Maria del Camino. She is the proud mother of an 8-month-old son. But he’s not along for the ride this time.

Instead, the stroller cradles a different kind of precious cargo: a five-gallon bottle of clean water. Since it’s too difficult for Estella carry the heavy bottle, she has found a clever way to wheel it home along the narrow footpaths.

And she’s not the only mother to do so – there’s a steady arrival of dozens of strollers every day as mothers come from nearby tin shacks and tiny houses to get water for their families.
